Office 2019 is compatible with Windows 10 and the last three versions of macOS. So what`s the difference between Office 2019 and the subscription-based Office 365 model? Office 2019 for Windows and Mac will be a one-time purchase and will not receive feature updates after purchase, according to Microsoft. Office 2019 will include a significant subset of the features available in Office 365, but will not be part of Office 365. However, Office 2019 will receive quality and security patch updates from time to time as needed. Just like previous versions, this version is fully supported for five years, with two years of “Extended Support” according to Microsoft`s FAQ. Business and consumer customers can now purchase Microsoft Office 2019 for Windows and Mac. Office 2019 is the next perpetual version of Office. It includes significant improvements over Microsoft Office 2016 and earlier versions of Office on-premises. Like its predecessor, Microsoft Office 2016, Microsoft Office 2019 has the same perpetual SKU editions targeting different markets. Microsoft Office 2019, like its predecessor, includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote and is licensed for use on a computer.   At least the impression on Windows is that Office 2019 will be completely different from Office 365. It will include some of the new features that Office 365 subscribers have received since the release of Office 2016. This is a lifetime license that will essentially remain the same until the next perpetual license offering, while Office 365 continues to receive new features every month.
Volume licensed versions of Office 2019 cannot be downloaded from the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center and must be deployed from the command line by configuring and running the Office Deployment Tool (ODT.xml).  *Real-time collaboration is available in Office 2019, but only as part of Word 2019 and only in combination with SharePoint Online. Although Office 2019 updates are available on the Internet, they can be hosted locally for separate networks. Moving to the cloud is a journey with many considerations. Therefore, we remain committed to local customers and plan to create additional versions after Office 2019. On April 27, 2018, Microsoft released Office 2019 Commercial Preview for Windows 10. Shortly after the arrival of the Mac M1 in November 2020, Microsoft made sure that Office ran natively on the M1 chip. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and OneNote all work on Mac M1. Microsoft 365 customers would have automatically received the new version of the software update. Office 2019 remains the same major version 16 as its predecessor, Office 2016, so it is the second perpetual version of Office 16. Microsoft plans to end standard support for Office 2019 on October 10, 2023. Unlike other versions of Microsoft Office, Office 2019 only has two years of extended support, which means support for Office 2019 ends on the same day as support for Office 2016 and Windows 10 on October 14, 2025.
